Washington DC Center of Self-Realization Fellowship

Children & Youth

Infants & Toddlers (ages birth to 3)

We encourage those with infants to attend services, but because babies and small children may disturb those meditating during services, we please request that they not be brought to the chapel. Instead, the Center has a Parent-Child Room where parents can view and hear the service on a large video screen while caring for their babies or small children. View the Parent-Child Room Guidelines.

Sunday School

Purpose

The purpose of our Sunday School programs is to inspire the children and youth to seek God and love Him above all else, to share His love with all, to teach the youth how to live happy balanced lives, how to bring God into their daily lives, and how to develop a personal relationship with Him through the practice of regular meditation.

Leadership

Sunday School Classes are led by a teacher experienced in Kriya meditation with the help of an assistant.

Sunday School Class (ages 3+)

Junior Class

Second and Fourth Sundays, 11:00 am to noon, September through May. Introduces children to the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and meditation. Students are encouraged to participate in group practice of the SRF Energization Exercises, chanting, and brief periods of meditation. In addition, a “How-to-Live” lesson based on the teachings of Self-Realization Fellowship is an integral part of each class. Each lesson is supported by an activity, such as crafts, play-acting, story-telling, and guided discussion. Classes commence the Sunday after Labor Day and conclude the Sunday before Memorial Day. All children ages 3+ are welcome to attend.

Registration

Registration is open to all. For more information, please contact Sally Maxton at sallymax8@gmail.com .

SRF Programs for Youth

SRF Summer Day Program

Each year Self-Realization Fellowship conducts a How-to-Live Summer Day Program in Encinitas, California, consisting of five day-session for girls and another for boys. The Summer Day Program is for children 7 to 12 years old and teens 13 to 18 years old.

Through the practice of monastic-led Energization Exercises, meditation, satsangas, and other programs exploring Paramahansa Yogananda’s teachings, youth will be able to discover the inner strength so needed in today’s world in order to make choices that lead to a deeply satisfying inner and outer life.

Other SRF Youth Programs

SRF also sometimes conducts some one to two day How-to-Live programs in other regions of the U.S. closer to the DC Center. These programs are announced through our monthly e-Newsletter and Event Notifications

It isn't academic education alone that makes people happy. It is "how-to-live" education — how to develop a harmonious, moral life, stronger will power, and spiritual understanding — that will bring happiness.
