Washington DC Center of Self-Realization Fellowship

Commemorative Services

Our Center, along with Self-Realization Fellowship temples and centers throughout the world, hold Special Commemoration Services to honor the birthdays, special dates and mahasamadhis of the SRF line of gurus. Mahasamadhi means “great ecstasy” which is the union of the soul with the infinite during a God-realized yogi’s final exit from the body.

The birthday and mahasamadhi services are primarily intended for SRF members and other devotees who regularly attend SRF services. However, all are welcome. The services are an opportunity for devotees to express their appreciation and love to the guru being honored and participate in the service with sincerity and reverence.

Paramahansa Yogananda said: “Commemoratives of a God-realized soul should not be belittled as merely a social ceremony. It is a deeply spiritual occasion on which the vibrations of blessing from an illumined master are stronger than on other days in the year, because in the astral world, also, a celebration is taking place. Devotees who attend these ceremonies with the right attitude will reap spiritual benefits and will find their high resolutions strengthened.”

Always check the Calendar to verify the date and time.
